Whakatane District Council has won this year's No Pollute Commute Corporate Challenge, organised by the Tauranga based Bay of Plenty Sustainable Business Network.
The challenge held for two weeks, March 8-19, was designed to encourage Bay of Plenty businesses to reassess their transport methods.
Whakatane District Council staff Catherine Ball, Estelle Reid, Hayley Lougher, Erika Schuler-Spichtig, Brent Rowson, Peter McLaren, Janie Storey, Julie Gardyne, Claire Battersby, Brian Elliot, Carolyn Campbell, Laura Swan and on the skateboard Wouter Vullings .
Whakatane District Council's strategic policy analyst Catherine Ball says the challenge provided a structured opportunity for council staff to make a contribution to sustainable transport practices.
'The council sees itself as a leader in the community and we are trying to show the community how sustainable transport methods can be adopted.”
