SunLive BOP Symphonia Competition

Bay of Plenty Symphonia celebrates 35 years of creating great music with its first 2010 concert, A Salute to The Big Apple, at Baycourt Theatre on Sunday, May 30 at 2pm.
The concert is conducted by Ashley Hopkins and compeered by Greg Brownless.

It will feature music composed, arranged and performed by some of the biggest names in American music including Duke Ellington, Gershwin, Bernstein, Copland, Custer, Leroy Anderson and Richard Meyer. Bay of Plenty Symphonia's musicians will take the audience on a musical journey through the Big Band sound of the 1920s and the vibrant musical theatre shows of Broadway through to the latest in symphonic repertoire.
Themes from shows such as An American in Paris; West Side Story; New York, New York; Porgy and Bess; film music from Star Trek; the ever-popular A Trumpeter's Lullaby; and Fanfare for the Common Man are part of the programme featuring much loved icons of 20th century American music.
Tickets are available from Baycourt TicketDirect. No booking fee charged on tickets bought at the counter.
