Traffic congestion on SH2

The New Zealand Transport Agency is reporting heavy traffic using State Highway 2 from Paeroa to Waihi and is advising motorists to delay using the road stretch if they can.

NZTA is reporting traffic congestion at the section of State Highway 26 meeting State Highway 2 and southwards to Waihi.

Heavy holiday traffic is being reported along Sh2 from Paeroa to Waihi.

NZTA media spokesperson Ewart Barnsley says there is heavy traffic in both directions on SH2 – and motorists should avoid the area if possible.

'We would advise people to either delay their trips or to eb aware a lot of heavy trffic is on the roads, and to drive with patience and care.”

Ewart says it seems a lot of people are deciding 'this is the day to go on holiday” – and road-users should be extra careful with drivers towing caravans, boats as well as motorcyclists and cyclists using the highways as well.

'The traffic is heavy and if you can delay your trip, we advise you should – or to share the road.”
