A Tauranga couple is regenerating native plants by encouraging their family to plant kauri trees on their 10 acre property to be enjoyed in generations to come.
Maree and Matt's niece and nephew Ava and Jack Swanberg, who come to stay from Auckland, planting their kauri tree with Maree and Matt's children Jett and Milly Swanberg.
Maree Wilkinson and her partner Matt invite their family and friends to each plant a kauri tree on their land in Whakamarama when they come to visit.
'We have asked all the cousins and friends who visit to plant their very own kauri so they can come up here long after we've gone and see their very own kauri trees growing,” says Maree.
Japanese maple trees and pohutukawa trees have also been planted on Maree and Matt's property by some of their friends.
'We've grown the kauris from tiny plants that were seeded from the Bay of Plenty,” says Maree.
'This is the last place kauris grow as it gets too cold further south.”
