Another round of wet and windy weather is on the way this week as an anti-cyclone crosses the country.
The MetService is predicting gusty northerly winds and rain in Tauranga tomorrow and Friday as the anticyclone makes way for a new trough from the Tasman Sea.
The MetService is forecasting rain for tomorrow and Friday before the weather turns fine for the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to be around 20 degrees during the day, dropping to about 10 degrees at night.
MetService media and communications meteorologist Dan Corbett says a complex trough is expected to approach the country Wednesday evening then pass eastward during Thursday.
'But it will be back to the raincoats during the second half of the week as the next rainmaker rolls in.
'The next weather system will bring a spell of rain, possible heavy and thundery at times, over the upper South Island and the south of the North Island from this evening.”
Dan says the rain and possible thunderstorms should spread across the rest of the North Island on Thursday.
'In the meantime, another trough is expected to shift north over the South IsIand on Thursday, bringing a cold southwest change and some rain to the west and south.
'The outlook for the weekend at this point is for a brief, drier spell before a new low arrives early next week.”
A severe weather watch is in place for Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty for the possibility of rainfall accumulations approaching warning amounts about the eastern Bay of Plenty ranges from Thursday afternoon to Thursday night.
