Worst cold over for Tauranga

The MetService's Bob McDavitt believes Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty may have seen the worst of its wintry temperatures.

Low cloud lingering around Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty has resulted in July temperatures so far being warmer than June.

He says the region plunged into winter earlier than usual and the cold temperatures experienced in June may have been the lowest for the year.
Bob says late July and early August are usually when the coldest temperatures are recorded but the region's early start to winter possibly bucked the trend this year.
The coldest overnight temperature in Tauranga this year was 1 degree, recorded on June 19, 24, 25.
Tonight's overnight air temperature will be three degrees, with a mild minus one degree frost in the morning.
