Desperately seeking: mountain safety instructors.
The Tauranga Mountain Safety Council needs more instructors to train free of charge to help those enjoying the great New Zealand outdoors.
The council has just graduated three new instructors, who qualified after successfully completing in-house training, NZQA assignments and a two day field assessment at Whitireia Polytechnic.
Mat Macmillan is one of the new instructors and says TMSC allows the community to learn about bush safety and promote the benefits of the outdoors.
The organisation is run by volunteers and needs more instructors. Training is free of charge and focuses on all land based recreational activities.
