Greenpeace mascot in town

Greenpeace's oceans mascot, Sad Fish, will visit Tauranga this week as part of a nine-week nationwide tour to safeguard the future of New Zealand fisheries.
While in Tauranga, the large, red Sad Fish and two Greenpeace volunteers will attend public events and talk with seafood retailers and customers.

Sad Fish.

They will be distributing information on what people can do to ensure the survival of New Zealand fisheries including bilingual versions of the Greenpeace Red Fish Guide which lists 12 seafood species people should avoid buying.
Greenpeace is asking supermarkets to stop selling these species, unless caught using sustainable methods and sustainable seafood policies are implemented.
One of Sad Fish's travelling companions, Roshahn Smith, says the tour is delivering a serious message in a fun way.
'Sad Fish has instant appeal. He's very friendly and approachable and by the end of the tour will be recognised around the country. He even has a Facebook page so people can follow his progress.
'New Zealanders love to fish and we want to keep it that way. Our mascot is sad because parts of our oceans are being destroyed and some fish stocks are being depleted, but there are things we can be doing right now to stop this,” says Roshahn.
The Sad Fish team will be at a public stall in Red Square on Wednesday from 1pm.
They will also host a meeting for supporters and members of the public on Tuesday at De Bier Haus at 6pm.

The wonderful people stopping you in the street or knocking on your door are paid $18.00 per hour by Greenpeace. to get you to sign a petition... .And I thought they were just there for the good cause

Pat would you like a job??

Hi Pat, Actually our fundraisers are paid because they work full time doing an extremely difficult job inspiring people to get on board and become regular donors to Greenpeace (as well as collecting petition signatures and taking part in a number of other voluntary activities). They do a brilliant job and should not need to apologise for being paid what is very modest wage. If you think the its a good rate of pay ($16.50/hr actually!) and that you can inspire people why not apply 0800 22 33 44 we are always looking for great new people. Amanda (Fundraising Director, Greenpeace)
