Petrol prices top record highs

Another 4cents a litre has been added to the price of petrol bringing it to an all-time record high in New Zealand.

BP was the first to announce a 4cent increase today, followed by Z Energy bringing the price of 91octane from $2.22 a litre to $2.26. Diesel has increased 3cents to $1.57.

The rise follows a 7cent increase in prices last week due to a combination of the Government's new 3cent excise tax and a 4cent rise from companies.

The Automobile Association Mark Stockdale says the increases are premature and unjustified.

AA's monitoring of diesel commodity prices to shows no noticeable increase to justify the rise in petrol prices, says Mark.

He says there has been an increase in commodity prices in the past week, but not enough to justify the latest increase.

According to the PriceWatch website, Caltex Service Stations in Tauranga are holding their petrol prices at $2.22 for 91octane and $1.52 for diesel.

Gull is also planning to hold-off putting its prices up until after the weekend, according to a statement released by the fuel company.

Boycott BP

Its just typical of BP to be the first to jack up prices at any excuse, what a rip off they are and will never be any different, they only drop prices when other garages drop prices. If it was down to BP we would be paying 3-4 dollars a liter. Only one way to deal with BP like they did in the UK some years ago and give them a bloody nose, just don't buy your petrol at BP! Boycott them and support other brands like Gull who are always trying to sell at far cheaper prices! Its the only way they will drop prices, if they lose a lot of our volume business> Dont just moan about prices with BP, do something about it! HIt them where it hurts!
