A Papamoa dairy, identified in a stealth survey as the only dairy of 21 in the area selling synthetic cannabis, has decided to remove it from its shelves due to public pressure.
Oasis Superette was the only dairy to sell synthetic cannabis to Papamoa Facebook page administrator Steve Morris during an undercover survey of 21 dairies in Papamoa and Mount Maunganui yesterday.

Dressed scruffily, Steve visited dairies in the Mount Maunganui and Papamoa area asking whether he could have 'some of the product” yesterday morning.
Of the 21, only Oasis was found to be selling the synthetic drugs. When told it was part of a survey the manager was quick to defend himself, saying he is no longer ordering the product.
'The rest did not have it. Some of them were quite vehement about it and said ‘No! We don't stock it',” says Steve.
'I felt bad asking for it after that.”
The store's decision comes after Matua Dairy manager Raj Singh announced in May he was stopping stocking controversial products like K2 and Everest following public outcry.
Steve says many Mount Maunganui dairies visited said they had stopped selling the products after police visited as part of an initiative to eradicate the synthetic drugs from the community.
He thinks the survey results are fantastic.
'We just wanted to see whose being community minded and those who are not.”
Oasis Superette manager Balwinber Singhbal says the dairy only has a few packets left from the last order and after that will no longer be stocking the product.
The decision was made after experiencing strong public opposition to the products.
'Some people wanted me to get rid of it so I stopped ordering it about three or four weeks ago and won't be selling it anymore.”
No longer stocking the drug will not hamper the dairy's sales, says Balwinber.

Congratulations to Balwinber for stepping up. It is great to see that more and more retailers are taking a stand against this hiedous product. we can only hope that the Government and Mr Keys will wake up soon and realise that there is only a small minority of the NZ public that think this product is Ok. Do we not have enough problems with P-Labs, users, excessive alcohol related issues and other drug problems. This product has already destroyed soo many lives in such a short period of time why oh why does our government not just man up find their ball's and blanket ban the lot! Well done again Balwinber!!!!
Good to see

No more available to buy gets rid of the problem at that location, but where else is it being sold?
Who does Steve think he is ?

Why do this 'covert, undercover' survey anyway ? Who does this Steve Morris think he is ? I dont like this product and dont condone it at all, but if its legal to sell, stop putting the shops into a situation where they have to answer to you. I dont think smoking should be legal, but it is. It is an individuals choice to either buy or not to buy. Looks like someone is looking for some free PR, lets see if he puts his hand up for council next ...
Steve looking scruffy?

I don't believe it.
Goes to show!

This goes to show that if people work together when something is hurting our society and culture (unique and wonderful as it is) it can be dealt with in a way that doesn't create a war. This is very encouraging to me :)
Well done

Good on Steve Morris having the courage to do this. A lot of time and effort to visit 21 dairies, but worth it in the long run. Vote Steve for a place on the TCC I say. An he does not look too bad for his attempt to look scruffy.
Prohibition
Posted on 04-07-2013 17:05 | By The Tomahawk Kid
All this was done WITHOUT the government being involved Tinkerbell - why do you require the government to ban it? Prohibition does not work - History makes it plain and simple. Some people place too much importance and have too many expectations of government. It is not necessary to involve them as made quite clear in this article. Time to wean yourselves off of the government tit people. This product ONLY EXISTS because of cannabis prohibition - and whose fault is that? Answer: The people you go running to to ban it.
Keep it seemly,

Tinkerbell, a rather emotive rant, and while anything to get rid this heinous drug, along wjth its relative "P" and a few others, is very welcome, and just remember the Dairy owner only has stopped selling it, to protect his livlihood, thats people power!!!! it is not John Keys fault, he did not create this society, where our young and not so young, have no respect, or manners, the more we complain, and stand up, and as tinkerbell suggests, find our balls, we can keep on at Judges, and Social Welfare agencies, that better deterrents need to be found, maybe a smack in the ear might work!!!!
Why no action from our National Govt??
Posted on 04-07-2013 18:36 | By Annalist
Wouldn't the logical step be to ask govt to ban this bad drug? Just can't understand why Steve doesn't get stuck into an apparent lack of action from our politicians on this. Mind you, a lot of people peddle all sorts of stuff these days, including prosperity gospel charlatans with the drug of religion. Will they be the next target?

Addictive drugs...
Posted on 04-07-2013 20:15 | By dgk
I can only hope Steve does the same for the other addictive and destructive drugs sold in dairies. But I'm not hopeful of that happening anytime soon.

Good on you Steve for using this discreet and effective way of evaluating the extent of the problem - pleasing to see most dairy owners are now responsible!
