A Tauranga resident's daily habit of feeding seagulls has sparked debate about whether or not it is a good idea to feed the birds in residential areas.
George Shaw often has about 30 birds crowding his balcony every morning and afternoon, waiting for their share of hand-fed chicken hearts and dog roll.
After eight years, the 72-year-old's neighbours are fed up with the daily ritual and have complained to Tauranga City Council to try and get him to stop.

SunLive asked the community what their thoughts were on feeding seagulls.
Many people agreed that feeding the bird in a residential area was not a good idea and should only be done at the beach.

i thought when the majority of people where against something, that something has to go, is that not democracy, no more dribble, seagulls belong at the beach and rubbish dumps along with Pohutakawas.
