Rainy Anzac Day forecast

Those gathering for dawn services around the country this Anzac Day may want to take their raincoats as rain is forecast.

The MetService is predicting morning and evening showers in Tauranga tomorrow accompanied by westerly winds.

Rain is forecast for Anzac Day.

'The raincoat might come in handy for many on Anzac Day, especially during the dawn services,” says MetService media and communications meteorologist Dan Corbett.

He says showers and thunderstorms were expected overnight as a westerly flow brings a trough over Tauranga, Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington.

'A couple of active troughs will sweep across the country during Wednesday night and early Thursday.

'These features will bring bouts of showers for many and there is also the possibility of a rumble of thunder in the west, from South Auckland to Wellington and from Buller to Westland.”

Heavy rain is expected in the Eastern Bay of Plenty overnight.
