The Oosterdam is the final ship of the cruise ship season to dock the Port of Tauranga. The cruise ship arrived at 6am today and will depart at 11.30pm.

An estimated 219,000 passengers and crew docked in Tauranga this summer season from October 2012 to March 31.

Tourism Bay of Plenty general manager Rhys Arrowsmith says 84 cruise ships berthed at the Port of Tauranga this season.

The largest was the 15-deck liner Voyager of the Seas, which visited on November 29 last year carrying up to 5000 passengers and crew.

``The last international ports of call for the visiting ships were Australia, while some came from Tahiti or American Samoa. Most of the ships are Miami-based shipping companies,”' says Rhys.

The last ship to berth in Tauranga this season is the Oosterdam, with an estimated 2733 passengers and crew. It docked at 6am and is set to depart at 6pm.

Rhys says next season is shaping up to be even bigger than this year with 84 ships already booked in to date with 13 double- ship days and one triple- ship day secured.

A cracker of a season for Tourism Bay Of Plenty with the Port Of Tauranga monopolised by them and they making a 10% commission on sales before the passengers feet hit land.Everybody outside the gates were left with the scraps. The CBD was left to starve and TBOP didn't give a damn. Not good enough Council and TBOP.
