Outdoor safety top priority

Western Bay of Plenty residents can learn more outdoor safety now three new instructors have been appointed at the Tauranga Mountain Safety Council.

Tauranga Mountain Safety Council has gained three new instructors to educate people about outdoor safety.

Anastasia Tubert, Paul Jefferson and Mat Macmillan all recently qualified after successfully completing in-house training, NZQA assignments and a two day field assessment run by Whitireia Polytechnic.
The three have been assisting on public courses for two years. They are now qualified to lead and instruct Tauranga branch volunteer teams.
New instructor Mat says he and the other instructors have developed their presentation and public speaking skills as well as risk and crisis management. Outdoor first-aid, survival and the ability to be adaptable and resilient under stressful conditions were high priorities on their courses.
