A Tauranga supermarket has jumped the gun in an attempt to offer their customers Marmite 12 hours ahead of the scheduled launch day.
Cameron Road Pak N' Save was reported to have been selling the spread this morning as a gesture to their customers.
Pak N Save on Cameron Road put Marmite on sale a day early.
However, they were later told to remove the spread from the shelves and wait until the official launch tomorrow morning.
Sanitarium general manager Pierre van Heerden says Foodstuffs contacted the store to request they remove the product until tomorrow.
He says all packing of the spread was labelled with a ‘Do not put on sale until Wednesday March 20' sticker, but staff excitement may have crept in.
'I think sometimes staff in the stores might be a little keen and not understand that we are releasing it all at once.
'It's disappointing that everyone has been working towards one scheduled date.”
More than 500,000 jars of marmite will be spread across the country in supermarkets after being off the shelves since stocks ran out after the Sanitarium factory was closed due to damaged sustained the 2011 Christchurch.
Pierre says customers who miss out in their local supermarkets need to go the Marmite New Zealand Facebook page where other customers can direct them to supermarkets in the area which may still have stock.
It will be up to the individual retailers to set the price for the New Zealand spread.

A big fuss over nothing. The only yeast spread worth it's weight in gold is the original marmite, sold here as Our Mate. All the rest are just very poor copies, not worth bothering with.
lol

Coming home from school and splitting a Weetbix length wise, putting on some butter and Marmite. Great sandwich, dry Weetbix with a glass of silver top milk. Ahhhh what a childhood. We even had milk in schools. Then again that was before the place was over run by cape of no hopers
Lifeless souls marmited

Can't see the point in the fuss, drama and all that, next you will be telling me that Coro Street has some useful purpose that for over 30 years has eluded any intellegent person.
Simple rules broken
