The sun has once again come out to play for this year's Waitangi Day celebrations.
A dawn service was held at 6.30am, but for all those who slept in you can head to Papamoa Beach where the Tauranga Maori Business Association is hosting a Community Fair from 11am to 5pm.
Held at 1 Papamoa Beach Road at Coast Papamoa Beach development to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, association chief executive Buddy Mikaere says the fair is the first of its kind in Waitangi Day celebrations.
'This 2013 event is in many ways a learning experience to see how this might fit into community activities on New Zealand's national day. If it is as successful as we think it will be, then we will look forward to making it an annual event.
'Bring sun block, a hat and something to sit on.”
The fair will begin at 11am and features stalls selling a variety of item and services, as well as food stands and entertainment from local bands and dance groups.
Gold coin entry for the fair will go towards the Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club.
Road closures: the roads will be closed on Marine Parade between Grace Avenue and Pacific Avenue until 10am due to Waitangi Day celebrations.
