Tauranga transfers among five rescue missions

Two Tauranga Hospital patients were flown to Auckland City Hospital by the Aerocool Rescue Helicopter on Monday.

The Aerocool Rescue Helicopter completed five missions across the North Island on Monday, including two patient transfers from Tauranga Hospital.

The crew’s first call came early in the morning when a woman who had suffered a serious medical event was flown from Tauranga Hospital to Auckland City Hospital for specialist treatment, according to a media release from the rescue chopper.

The helicopter returned to Tauranga Hospital that afternoon to take another patient to Auckland City Hospital for advanced medical care.

The crew was then sent to Great Barrier Island, where a patient needed urgent medical assistance. After being treated at the scene, the patient was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital.

That evening, the rescue helicopter was sent to Taupō Hospital to transfer a woman in serious condition to Rotorua Hospital. It returned to Taupō for a man who had experienced a significant medical event. He was also flown to Rotorua Hospital.

The five missions highlighted the helicopter service’s role in providing rapid transport for critically ill patients across the North Island.
