The Stand Tall Community Trust in Tauranga is to receive a $20,000 Government boost.

The trust is one of 11 community-based organisations to receive funding from the $1.5 million Ministry of Youth Development (MYD) fund.

Three separate funds will support a range of programmes targeting different levels of youth enterprise experience, eligible for those between 12 and 24 years of age.

More than 5300 young Kiwis will benefit from new funding which invests in their business potential, develops enterprise skills, and better prepares them for their future work environment, Youth Minister James Meager said this week.

Stand Tall is based in Tauranga, but the organisation works across the Bay of Plenty alongside young people aged 15 to 24 to grow their entrepreneurial capability.

General manager Pascale Hyboud-Peron says the funding strengthens their commitment to reach rangatahi (youth) who are often overlooked.

“It tells them: You belong, your ideas matter, and we’re here to help you make something of them. That’s powerful.”

He said the funding would help Stand Tall deliver ThriveX, a hands-on programme that runs over 10 weeks and supports rangatahi to explore ideas, solve real problems, and bring their thinking to life.

“It’s creative, messy, and deeply human – and it works best when we can take away barriers to participation," said Hyboud-Peron.

“So, the funding goes toward facilitation, kai, venue hire, and anything else that makes the experience accessible, welcoming, and empowering.”

Hyboud-Peron said the support from the Ministry of Youth Development was a real boost – not only for the trust, but also for the young people it works with.

“It recognises the role that entrepreneurship can play in re-engaging youth, opening up future pathways, and building thriving communities.

“It gives us the backing we need to keep showing up for young people – especially those who don’t always fit into traditional boxes – and offer them something that’s relevant, practical, and full of possibility."

Hyboud-Peron said the trust would like to thank Meager and the ministry for recognising the value of enterprise as a youth development tool.

“This investment isn’t just funding a programme – it’s enabling a mindset shift in our communities.

“At Stand Tall, we believe that every young person should have the opportunity to explore who they are, what they care about, and how they can contribute. This funding brings that belief to life.”

Hyboud-Peron said the trust was always keen to hear from people who wanted to be part of the journey.

“Whether it’s sharing your story as a guest speaker, offering feedback to our young entrepreneurs, or simply showing up to our events and letting them know their ideas matter.

“These young people are bold, curious, and ready to contribute – and when the community gets behind them, incredible things happen."
