Waihī Beach: Fire crews rescue driver from car

Waihī Beach Community Shop has posted to Facebook that everyone is safe following a car colliding with the building on Wilson Rd, and the shop will be closed until further notice. Photo / Waihī Beach Community Shop.

One person was rescued after a car collided with a building on Wilson Rd, Waihī Beach at 1.30pm this afternoon.

“The person was safely extricated from the vehicle,” a spokesperson from Fire and Emergency New Zealand said.

Brigades from Waihī and Mayor View attended, with three fire engines at the scene.

“We have since left, and the person is now in the care of St John.”

An ambulance and one rapid response unit attended, a Hato Hone St John’s spokesperson said.

“One patient, in moderate condition, is being transported to Thames Hospital.”

Police said that there are no road closures at this stage.
