After years of travelling around the Bay of Plenty for training venues, the Tauranga Roller Skating Club finally has a permanent home.

They collaborated with the Mount Mustangs Inline Hockey Club to secure a lease on a new skate centre at Bay Park called Revolution Skate Centre.

The skate centre is a shared space for these clubs, which will host open sessions, classes, competitive training, and regular public discos.

Jo Russell, board member of Tauranga Roller Skating Club, said she felt proud and was overjoyed with the success of their club.

“We’re very happy, and we’ve spent a lot of time creating the rink.”

They have members from the ages of 3 to 70+ and accommodate all abilities, from beginners to competitive skaters.

The club teaches various disciplines of artistic skating, including freestyle, figure, dance, precision, and speed skating.

Russell said they had great success at the National Championships a few weeks ago, where they won gold, silver and bronze awards.

“We achieved some great results, and we’re feeling quite proud. We’re even holding our first regional beginners competition in September this year.”

Revolution Skate Centre is hosting their grand opening this Sunday at 10.30am.
