Katikati Rugby & Sports Club is heading into the off-season after the Stags only just fell short in their semifinal showdown against the Arataki Makos on June 21.
The Stags met the Makos at Arataki Park – and after a season full of hard work, heart and team spirit, the boys gave it everything in what turned out to be an exciting and hard-fought match.
The team arrived focused and ready to take on the challenge. But they weren’t alone – an impressive crowd of Stags supporters made the journey, outnumbering the home fans and creating an electric atmosphere that showed just how strong the Katikati community truly is.
The Makos started strong, putting early pressure on the Stags and scoring three quick tries in the first 20 minutes. But the Stags rallied back with powerful scrummaging, dominant lineouts and some brilliant team play that resulted in five outstanding tries.

Stags’ try-scorers were Baylei Peckham (two tries), Logan Ward, Lou Mokofisi, and Polutele Tavite. Conversions were successfully slotted by Willy Varley and Liti Uilou.
Despite the strong comeback, the final score was 27–37 in favour of Arataki. It was a hard-fought game and a true display of the determination and pride that defines the Stags.
With the Stags’ 2025 rugby season now finished, Katikati Rugby & Sports Club thanks everyone who played a part this year – from our players and coaching team to our amazing volunteers, supporters and generous sponsors. We couldn’t do it without you. Your support on the sidelines, in the kitchen, behind the bar, and in the background keeps this club running and thriving.
However, while the season is done on the field, the club is planning an active off-season with events and gatherings.
The club is hosting two school holiday Touch Rugby Skills and Drills events for kids aged six-12 on July 3 and 9 from 9am-1pm at Moore Park. Participants don’t need rugby boots. The events cost $25 each, per player. For more information, email: [email protected]

Also in the pipeline is a Community Summer Touch Tournament, and a Stags Muster – so keep an eye on the Katikati Rugby & Sports Club Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you down at the club.
