While the two top sides in the Baywide Premier title race tasted defeat with one round remaining in the preliminary competition, both Whakarewarewa and Te Puke Sports consistency during the regular season paid off, with home semi-finals confirmed, after the weekend results were posted.

An absolute belter that went down to the referee's final whistle, took place at Maramatanga Park where Te Puna squeezed home 34-33 from Te Puke Sports.

On a wet and muddy track, the home side took an early 12 nil lead before Te Puke came back with two converted touchdowns. From there the match see-sawed with both teams registering five tries apiece.

With five minutes left on the clock Te Puke scored a converted try to make it a one-point ballgame. A strong Te Puna defence in the closing minutes earned them the win in front of their fervent supporters.
