Taneatua Road in the Whakatāne area is closed following a single vehicle crash this afternoon.

“Emergency services were alerted to the crash near White Pine Bush Road at around 2.20pm,” Police said.

“One person has received critical injuries.”

Hato Hone St John was notified of the motor vehicle accident in Taneatua at 2.18pm and responded with one ambulance and one rapid response.

"Our crew assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Whakatāne Hospital in a critical condition."

Police said the road is closed and diversions are in place.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
