A tree that has fallen across State Highway 25 between Whitianga to Tairua is the cause of traffic delays this afternoon.

NZTA Waka Kotahi advise that traffic is impacted in both directions on the highway.

"Due to a substantial fallen tree on SH25, just south of Mill Creek Rd, delays through the area are expected with traffic management in place as it is removed," an NZTA spokesperson said.

Motorists are advised to expect delays.
