UPDATE: State Highway 2 at Pikowai is now clear following a truck crash.

Emergency services were called about 6.30am to SH2 at West, Pikowai after a truck tipped on its side, a police spokesperson said.

There were no reports of injuries, but the road was blocked for a time.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi reported the road was fully clear at 9.20am.

Reports are coming in of a crash on State Highway 2, near the Matatā Straights, in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services were called about 6.30am to SH2 West, Pikowai, after a truck tipped on its side, said a police spokesperson.

“There are no reports of injuries, but the southbound lane is reportedly blocked.”

A highway alert from NZTA is advising motorists to "follow directions of response crews and expect delays".
