Update, 6.11pm: Police can confirm one person has died following a crash on State Highway 5, Mamaku.

The single vehicle crash was reported at about 3.50pm.

The sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

State Highway 5 remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination.

Earlier, 5.10pm: State Highway 5 between Tirau and Rotorua is closed just north of Mamaku following a crash.

Police said the single vehicle crash between Galaxy Road and Barker Road was reported at about 3.50pm.

“Initial indications are that there are serious injuries,” Police said.

“State Highway 5 is expected to remain closed for some time.”

Fire crews from Putaruru and Rotorua are also attending.

NZTA Waka Kotahi said SH5 is closed between Maraeroa Rd and Oturoa Rd due to a truck crash.

A detour is in place.

For northbound: SH28, SH29 to Tauriko, SH36 to Ngongotaha.

Southbound: in reverse.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
