eDay comes to Western Bay

Western Bay of Plenty residents are getting the chance to dispose of their electronic waste free.

The legendary Powermate 2000, due for recycling.

eDay, a free nationwide computer recycling event, will be held on Saturday, September 12.
Organisers expect to divert over 1,000 tonnes of electronic waste from landfills nationally and 142 tonnes in the Bay of Plenty and will enable the recovery of valuable materials such as gold, copper and aluminium so they can be reused.
Only computer related electronic waste, mobile phones and digital cameras can be disposed of.
Environment Bay of Plenty chairman John Cronin says last year's eDay attracted fantastic support from across the region.
'We are delighted to be involved again this year and give our community the chance to dispose of their old computer equipment in an environmentally friendly way,” says John.
Electronic waste is the fastest growing and one of the most challenging waste problems in the world and New Zealand is no exception, according to EBOP.
eDay organisers estimate over 87,000 computer related items were diverted from Bay of Plenty landfills at last year's eDay.
The eDay will be held at Baypark stadium between 9am and 3pm on September 12.
Only households can dispose of waste and no trailers can be used.
