Earlier today police raided the clubrooms of Filthy Few Motorcycle Club on Birch Avenue. About 25 officers in the armed offenders' squad entered the premises, with the support of about 35 other officers in the surrounding area.
Witnesses say the police presence in the area was overwhelming.
Employees inside Plumbing World, directly across from the Filthy Few headquarters, heard loud explosions and then saw dozens of AOS members scaling the walls of the headquarters.
Kyle Burke works at Colin Davis Panelbeaters, which neighbours the headquarters, and says he witnessed the incident as it unfolded.
'I was reversing a car out of the driveway and I saw a Rent a Dent truck pull up on the road and then about 15 to 20 AOS members jumped out of the back of it.
The next thing, I heard big explosions blowing down doors,” says Kyle.
Michelle Tenbroek works at Tauranga Hardware, directly next to the pad, and she says loud bangs alerted staff that something was happening.
'I just heard lots of bangs and pops, it sounded like something was hitting tin and then we heard a lot more.
We went out and there was a whole lot of people watching across the road and police officers arriving in cars,” says Michelle.
Detective sergeant Darryl Brazier says police were executing a search warrant after receiving inofrmation from the public that led them to believe there were class 'A' drugs there. The search is expected to last all day. There is no traffic disruption in the Judea area owing to the incident.
