A person is in serious condition after a "family-harm related incident" in Tauranga.

Police confirmed that they were called to a property in Judea on Sunday night.

“This does relate to a family harm matter,” says a police spokesperson in a statement to SunLive.

“Police have arrested a 37-year-old man and charged him with wounding with intent and injuring with intent to do grievous bodily harm following an assault.”

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson says they were notified of this incident in Judea at 10.32pm.

“[We] responded with one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.”

“One patient was assessed at the scene and was transported to Tauranga Hospital, by ambulance, in a serious condition.”

A neighbour of the Judea property, incident phoned 0800 SUNLIVE this morning saying the house is cordoned off.

The caller says a man and a woman live there with their two children.

They say there is blood all over the driveway. A reporter who visited the scene this morning says police could be seen at the property.

“The family are very well-liked, they’re a lovely family, and they’re not a gang,” says the caller.

“The police at the cordon have told us they expect to be there for the next 3-4 days.”
