During a home game the Tauranga Whai, show resilience against the Canterbury Rams despite fourth quarter struggles.

Last night, Whai faced off against the defending 2023 Champions, the Canterbury Rams, in a thrilling home game, says Whai Basketball Club co-founder, John Miller.

"Whai came out strong in the first and second quarters, demonstrating energy and readiness on the court.

"However, the absence of a dominant big man in the interior posed challenges for Whai, as they struggled to contain Lachlan Olbrich, the Rams' 6ft 8in sharpshooter.

"During the half time the fans were treated to skills and trills of local Circus performers.

"Despite these challenges, Whai maintained a close contest with the Rams until the fourth quarter, where a lack of depth on the bench became evident.

"The game ultimately slipped away, but not without notable performances from key players on both sides."

"The Whai now face a busy and demanding schedule, with upcoming road games against the Manawatu Jets in Palmerston North and a crucial home game against the Wellington Saints next Wednesday, 29 May.

"The matchup against the Saints is a must-win to keep Whai's hopes alive for a top 6 spot on the ladder."
