All Newshub operations are to be shut down and 250 people will lose their jobs.
The last 6pm news bulletin will air on July 5.
External talks are still ongoing but no outside deals have been confirmed yet, staff have been told.
Warner Bros Discovery said talks were ongoing with third parties to provide a pared-back news service - such as a 6pm bulletin for the Three channel.
The announcement comes after an all-staff meeting which has been held at a meeting hall close to Newshub's office in Auckland's Eden Terrace on Wednesday morning.
Newshub staff were told by Warner Bros Discovery management in February it planned to axe the entire news operation with the possible loss of up to 300 jobs from June 30.
The newsroom was losing too much money, staff were told.
Since then, it is understood there have been talks between Warner Bros Discovery and a number of media firms, including Stuff, about ways that part of the business could be preserved. It has been suggested that could include the production of a "slimmed-down" news bulletin by a third party.
Meanwhile, TVNZ staff will today hear the fate of its Sunday current affairs show, after the company confirmed on Tuesday it was axing the on-air version of Fair Go, and the Midday and Tonight news programmes.
Spinoff founder Duncan Greive said the changes would be irreversible, and a "tragic" outcome for those affected.
More to come

We still have a sector of the population that believe in the idealistic utopia of "a job for life".
How quickly the sacrosanct "media" forget their fawning adoration of Saint Jacinda and their failure to fact check anything that spilled from her far left cabinet.
We are no longer listening to the dictatorship messages from the Media, the Government or the local government because they are being proven to be self-serving social engineering associations with no regard for the major demographic.
Every public entity in NZ is now more focused on minor issues than catering to the masses. How much in depth research is going on, when there's a 6pm deadline.

I stopped reading your posts because of the tiresome headline, but this one was by itself, and I must say it is well expressed. You are absolutely right about the media. Most of our media have lost credibility and people simply are suspicious of what is reported and how it is reported. I am using Ground News to evaluate articles, and find it helpful, but you are right about the pressure of deadlines. (That has always been a problem for media...I was a press photographer for the BOP Times many years ago and it always bugged me that pictures needed to be processed and klischographed before midday, in order to make the evening edition. Now, we have instant digitization and transmission...) I don't think anyone expects "jobs for life" anymore. Even the Japanese gave up on that decades ago.
