Interpretive signs to be installed on Cameron Road

As part of the finishing touches along Cameron Road, Tauranga City Council contractors are installing interpretive signs.

Interpretative signage covers a range of topics such as natural and cultural heritage, historic stories, geological information, or can simply highlight points of interest within a reserve, park or urban space.

This work involves hyrdovac excavation to make the holes for the posts the signs will be on, says a council spokesperson.

"The team is also upgrading the power box on the eastern side of the Elizabeth Street and Cameron Road intersection (outside Toyota) from Monday, March 25, which will require the closure of a section of footpath along Elizabeth Street, as well as a closure of the mid-block crossing overnight from 6pm Wednesday, March 27.

"There are also some remedial stormwater works underway. These works are largely underground, but involve entering several manholes at the roadside from Monday, March 25, over four days.

"These areas will be smaller, fenced-off sections along the corridor during the coming week."

Council says new public water fountains are also currently being installed at Elizabeth Street and Sixteenth Avenue.

"Work to install permanent fences and timber posts at some of the mid-block pedestrian crossings is also continuing, along with the installation of the decorative pavers which signify shared-use pathways.

"The team is also completing the remaining paint work on the shared footpath and cycleway, at nights (6pm to 6am), as weather allows.

"We thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential works are underway."

At least these signs won't be too large as not a whole lot to say about the cbd.

This council love spending money on dumb stuff.
Here some more money to spend please, get rid of the super slippery plastic dome things at intersections. As a daily commuter I've fallen off multiple times, as have other cyclists.
While you at it move the bloody bus stops out of the cycle lane !!

Hmmm

Will the person in the "planning" offices, responsible for signing off the "planning" of work along Cameron Road be dismissed...?
Why are we are already seeing issues that should have been resolved at the planning stage cropping up for remediation.
Our council office seat warmers are overpaid and inept.
Anyone "elected" to join the council should be made aware that they will be made responsible for the politically idealistic advice and information passed on and a good deal of that advice will be poorly managed and researched.

For the ratepayers sake,

CEASE AND DESIST! All you kiddies at council, 'the team', just go, now. We are sick to death of your endless follies, at our expense. How much more do you fools think we can afford? Like the stupid $ wasteful bike crossing lights (!) this latest idiocy just adds to a very long list of expenditure which should never, ever have happened. And again, as I have asked before, why was this latest 'work' not included in the finishing of the project, not weeks/months later, causing more disruption and much more expense.

1 lane still missing

Where is the mobility scooter lane. we cant use the road, we cant use the cycle lane, so we have to fight our way through all the pedestrians they don't like that and we don't like that. We need a dedicated double lane Cm-on council think of the future for all the oldies.

Stupid again

What about the pedestrian crossing buttons for cyclists.
What a waste of ratepayers money.
Why can't the cyclists use the existing buttons for the crossings.
We all need to continue to email TCC with our concerns. Nothing will get done complaining here.

OPM

Posted on 27-03-2024 13:25 | By morepork

Despite a deluge of protest at the simple "silliness" of some of the minor "projects" being undertaken (never mind the insanity of the major ones), it doesn't stop. I gave some thought to this and it all comes down to total irresponsibility for Other People's Money (OPM). The people who are doing this have to justify their existence and they are being encouraged by their "leadership" to treat OPM as if it were just surplus money from the government or like winning Lotto. Against a background of so much waste and "investment" in schemes that the Community doesn't actually want, need, or can afford, the cost of installing cycle crossing buttons is negligible.
New Councillors should be advised to close down some of these pointless departments and to cultivate a "culture" of RESPECT for OPM. There can be no good governance without it.

Your last two sentences need to be taken on board by anyone brave enough to run for council. We are not alone in our belief that a huge amount of financial damage caused by this council has been instigated behind the scenes where the idiotic dreamers and schemers hide. And, I realise I should give council a capital C, and maybe one day I will, when I have respect for the people running my city.

Thanks for your supportive post. I think it is even worse than "dreamers" and "schemers". I believe that, at the top level, many of the projects currently proposed are simply for vanity. (And, possibly, to spread some of the gravy around the sycophants and vested interests... I hope that possibility is not so.) It looks pretty good on your CV when you can claim you were responsible for Tauranga getting a $300 million upgrade. The fact that the city didn't NEED it right now, and the fact that most of the community are much more concerned with the generational debt it will incur, rather than the fact that it will look pretty, doesn't get discussed in the new job... I take your point about capitalizing "Council". I'm going to emulate you on that. (TCC -> Tcc until they earn the capitals back...)
