A front moving over the central North Island is expected to weaken on Thursday night.

The front is forecast to bring heavy rain to most parts of the country, along with west to northwest games in many eastern areas.

Heavy rain and fine weather is being forecast for the North Island.

Some scattered showers, some heavy at times, are being predicted for the Bay of Plenty but these are expected to clear this afternoon and fine weather is expected tomorrow, says the MetService.

The majority of the North Island is expected to remain fine during the week, while some wet weather is still on the cards for the South Island.
