Investigations are underway into the cause of a house fire in Tauranga.

Firefighters were called to the fire on Cameron Road just before midnight.

A SunLive reader emailed in a photo showing flames and smoke billowing from the blaze.

They say it was an "unoccupied house next to Vanquish Cycles".

"It was well ablaze last night."

Nicky Dale, who owns the Greerton Lodge Motel, witness the fire raze the house overnight.

"We have been watching homeless people live inside the abandoned house over last three months."
