While this bridge remains one of SH2s accident prone bridges, the article's photo highlights a problem with many bridges throughout our country. Note how there is no pedestrian access. A few years ago, I had to negotiate this particular bridge on foot which required a mad dash across, risking life and limb leaving me wondering how on Earth bridges such as this one could be built, let alone certified, without a footpath. Another example: the bridge at Waitangi (Rangiuru) often has marooned pedestrians.

well considering there's no existing footpath currently along SH2 why would these bridges have one? 21 years a local just use the rail bridge if youre that unsure of your spacials.
