Political parties are making their final push for votes on the last day they can promote themselves in the 2023 general election.

There's a general consensus among the parties that every vote counts, and all stops will be pulled out to encourage people to have their say.

After a testy 1News leaders debate last night, National's Christopher Luxon has clarified his supermarket bill, after saying he spends $60 a week.

He and Labour leader Chris Hipkins were asked how much they spend a week on food.

Luxon says he lives alone in his Wellington flat during the week and usually eats lunch out so he doesn't need to spend much on groceries.

He says his family spends "hundreds of dollars" on grocery shopping each week.

Hipkins joked he was concerned about his rival's diet, when he said he spent so little on food.

The Labour leader says he spends about $300 to $400 a week.
