The Labour Party says 6000 public servants will lose their jobs if National leads the next government.

National's plan outlines $2.3 billion of cuts to public services each year.

But Labour says its figures don't add up and a third more cuts would have to be made, making its cuts to public services more than $3 billion every year.

National in response has called Labour's fiscal plan a "debt spiral", saying under Labour the country faces the prospect of never ending deficits.

With only days until the election, Hipkins sat down with Morning Report for an extended interview. National leader Christopher Luxon also sat down for an extended interview with the programme on Monday.
