Police are releasing the name of a woman killed in a crash in the Bay of Plenty.

A police spokesperson says they can now confirm that a woman has been located deceased following a crash involving a single vehicle, on Ruatahuna Road, Minginui, Whakatane.

The woman was 32-year-old Natalie Pedesvova from the Czech Republic.

"Police extend our condolences to her friends and family at this difficult time.

"It is believed Natalie was travelling to Lake Waikeremoana from Opotiki on the evening of Sunday 27 August to undertake a day hike.

"Police wish to thank the members of the local community and iwi who assisted in locating Natalie and at the site of the crash. 

"Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are making enquiries on behalf of the Coroner."
