UPDATE 11.29AM: Water is now back on in Waikite Road and surrounding streets in Welcome Bay following a water outage this morning.

"On investigation, the cause of the outage was found to be a mechanical issue," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"Water was returned to the supply at 9am.

"Our contractor is undertaking further work to fully resolve the cause of the issue.

"Residents can report any further outages or issue by calling us on 07 577 7000 24/7, or emailing [email protected].

"We appreciate the community’s patience during this water outage."

A water outage is being reported in Welcome Bay this morning.

Tauranga City Council says it's aware of a water outage in Welcome Bay this morning, "affecting residents on Waikite Road and surrounding streets".

"Our contractor is currently on site working to locate the leak and remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

"Will provide updates throughout the morning and appreciate the community’s patience."
