UPDATE 8.49AM: One person is being transported to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance following a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Otūmoetai.
Ngatai Road is now open following the crash, says a Tauranga Transport Operations Centre spokesperson.
Police were called at around 8.20am after a vehicle hit a pedestrian, says a police spokesperson.
The road was closed between the roundabout on Ngatai Road/ Otūmoetai Road and Freyberg Street, but has now reopened.
UPDATE 8.41AM: Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on Ngatai Road, Otūmoetai this morning.
Police were called at around 8.20am after a vehicle hit a pedestrian, says a police spokesperson.
"The road is closed between the roundabout on Ngatai Road/ Otūmoetai Road and Freyberg Street.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take an alternate route."
A SunLive reader reports that two ambulance, five police vehicles and a fire truck are at the scene.

Diversions are in place on Ngatai Road following reports of a serious crash.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says police and ambulance are at the scene of what looks to be a serious crash on Ngatai Road, outside the BP Service Station.
"Traffic is backed-up and it looks like police are going to be closing the road.
"People should avoid the scene."
A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says emergency services are on scene outside 244 Ngatai Road.
"It appears a car has collided with a pedestrian.
"Police are currently setting up diversions.
"Follow the directions of emergency services or avoid the area if possible."
