Update, 8.35am: Both lanes are now open following a truck breaking down on Hewletts Road between the Tauranga Bridge Marina and Tasman Quay.

"The truck is now off the road," says a Tauranga Transport Operations Centre spokesperson.

Earlier, one of the east bound lanes was blocked causing significant delays to traffic heading towards Mount Maunganui.

"An earlier truck breakdown has been cleared on SH2 Hewletts Rd," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

"Allow extra time as delays ease."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays in the Mount area.

A truck has broken down on Hewletts Rd between the Tauranga bridge marina and Tasman Quay, says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"One east bound lane is blocked causing significant delays to traffic heading towards Mount Maunganui.

"Expect delays."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they are stuck in traffic on Totara Street.

She says she has called her employer to advise she might be late for work.
