State Highway 29A near Maugatapu is open this morning following a serious crash.

The highway was closed overnight while emergency services attended a two car crash on the 100km/h road,

A police spokesperson says they were called to the crash around 7pm between the Taipari Overbridge and the Maungatapu roundabout.

"One person has gone through to hospital in a serious condition."

A two vehicle had been called to removed the damaged vehices just after 8.30pm and the road remain closed around 9pm.

The road is reported to be open again this morning.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
