State Highway 35 between Opotiki and Te Araroa is closed due to a slip and fallen trees.

"Due to slip on SH35 the road is closed from Beach Rd to Motu River Jet," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

The road hazard also includes trees that have fallen across the highway.

"[There is] no detour available. Delay your journey."

The slip is located approximately 4km southeast of Whitianga.

The road will remain closed until further notice.
