Large traffic delays are being reported in Mount Maunganui this morning.
A SunLive reader has messaged in saying; "Totara Street is closed and traffic is backed up".
Road construction is currently taking place on Totara Street, and Tauranga City Council says travel may be affected at different times over the coming weeks.
"The northbound lane on Totara Street (heading to Mount Maunganui) between Astrolabe Street and Hull Road will be closed from 7pm Friday, August 4, until 6am Wednesday, August 9, while we reconstruct the northbound lane," says a council spokesperson.
"The southbound lane will remain open during this time."
Council says work to upgrade the southbound lane in this section will begin at 7pm Friday, August 11, through to Wednesday, August 16.
"The northbound lane will be open during this time. Work will take place at night between the hours of 6pm and 6am, and traffic management and detours will be in place.
"If you can, it might pay to avoid the area during these periods as delays are expected. Thank you for your patience as we carry out this essential work."

Absolutely. We already have Cameron Road and most of the early side streets blocked off, plus let’s not forget 15th Ave. Can’t they finish work on the Tauranga side so at least that is moving before starting on the Mount?
Summer is almost here, cruise ships will be back and is this the welcome we want to give our visitors? Well obviously according to the morons who currently have the contract to do as they please with our roading network.

My greatest wish is for the council to sack their traffic manager!
The three years and running Cameron Road upgrade alone should have been a sackable reason. Add Links Ave closure on top, the traffic slowing measures all around town, icing on the cake!
I've never seen such ridiculous city roads management. If Tauranga council had elections, I'd vote for anyone promising to sack the council traffic manager!

So this morning from Papamoa East to this end of Hewletts Road, it took two and a half hours. This road works is just a huge laugh. Or not. Add in school kids. No ones going no where. When will this end. They need some decent traffic management asap.
