Roading & weather update for Coromandel

Wet and windy weather is pumelling the Coromandel Peninsula.

Heavy rainfalls are being reported in the Coromandel Peninsula.

Coromandel's CFM is reporting flooding in Manaia and a slip across both lanes closing SH25 at Te Kouma Hill.

In a post on its Facebook page, CFM says Wade Rd in Whitianga is flooding and "will get worse".

"We have reports that are not confirmed of flooding at Manaia and a slip across both lanes closing SH25 at Te Kouma Hill.

"Wade Rd Whitianga is flooding and will get worse. Passable (just) but not really safe and travel should be avoided. Also flooding near Wilderlands.

"Rain continues to fall with now over 70mm since midnight in Coromandel and several other locations around the Peninsula."

The local radio station says it has been a wet and windy night around the Coromandel.

"The Pinnacles has seen 102mm of rain fall in the 24hrs till 4am this morning and it’s still raining hard.

"East and west coast rainfalls have also been heavy with 50 to 60mm being recorded around the Peninsula since midnight. Gusts of around 50kph also being recorded and much higher in exposed places.

"High tide is 9:30am and some flooding is likely. We have reports of surface water in a number of places so take care. We have no other reports of any issues on the roads.
