UPDATE 9AM: Traffic congestion on Takitimu Drive is expected to clear soon.

A truck had broken down outside Tauranga Bridge Marina earlier this morning.

Tauranga City Council had reported congestion on SH2/Takitimu Drive and Tauranga Harbour Bridge heading towards the Mount.

A spokesperson says the truck has now been fixed by a mobile mechanic and is clear from the scene.

"Both lanes are open and traffic congestion should gradually clear."

EARLIER:

Heavier than normal traffic congestion is being reported on Takitimu Drive/SH2 this morning.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says the congestion is on SH2/Takitimu Drive and Tauranga Harbour Bridge heading towards the Mount.

"It is due to a broken down truck outside Tauranga Bridge Marina.

"Towing services are on the way to remove the truck."

People are being warned to expect delays if heading towards the Mount area.
