Diesel spill near Pyes Pa roundabout

A diesel spill in Tauranga is delaying traffic.

Police say they are assisting with traffic control at the roundabout of Takitimu Drive and Pyes Pa Road, after receiving reports of a spill at Barkes Corner.

"Part of State Highway 29 appears to be blocked extending from Pyes Pa Road while the road is cleared," says a police spokesperson.

Waka Kotahi NZTA say that due to a diesel spillage at Barkes Corner - the intersection of State Highway 29A and Pyes Pa Road - traffic delays can be expected.

"Drive with caution in the area," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

Tauranga/Cambridge turnoff traffic delays

Police are advising motorists in the vicinity of the State Highway 1/State Highway 29 interchange – Tauranga/Cambridge turnoff – to expect delays due to roadworks in the area.

"Consider alternative routes and allow extra time," says a Waikato police spokesperson.

"There is heavy traffic congestion in the area."

Kaimai Range delays

SunLive readers are also reporting that fog on the Waikato side of the Kaimai Range has been slowing down traffic travelling between Tauranga and Waikato on Sunday.

"Please ask motorists to switch their lights on as they come over the Kaimais," says a reader.
