1.15pm update: Emergency services are currently responding to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Central Road and State highway 36, Ngongotahā.
The crash was reported to police about 11.40am.
"Initial reports suggest two people are in a serious condition," says a police spokesperson.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays as traffic management is in place.
"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway."
Earlier, 12.20pm: Emergency services are responding to the scene of a vehicle crash on State Highway 36 between Tauranga and Ngongotaha.
Waka Kotahi NZTA advise that the state highway is now closed in both directions.
"Due to a crash, SH36 is closed between Central Rd and Tauranga Direct Rd.
"Follow directions of emergency services or delay your journey."
it is unknown at this stage if anyone is injured.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and to take care in the area.

Every other week theres a fatal crash it seems. Case of the infrastructure not keeping up with users.. when are the people in charge going to do something
