Legendary German footballer Babett Peter will be a special guest at Sunday's FIFA Women's World Cup trophy event in Tauranga.
Babett played 118 games for her country, and has lifted 21 major trophies in a 20-year career that included stints with Lokomotive Leipzig, Turbine Potsdam, Vfl Wolfsburg and Real Madrid.
Babett, who retired from international football in 2022, lives in the United States and is visiting New Zealand ahead of the Women's World Cup that starts on Thursday July 20.
Babett's 21 trophy successes include a World Cup, a gold medal at the Rio Olympics, a UEFA championship, a women's Champions League, nine German league titles, seven German cups and a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.

The most-prized trophy in women's football will be on display in Tauranga tomorrow, Sunday, June 18, when a series of female-focussed events will be held at Fergusson Park.
The FIFA Women's World Cup original trophy will visit Tauranga as part of its ‘tiki tour' of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
Since starting its worldwide journey in February, the trophy's journey includes all 32 participating nations.

The German defender and New Zealand football great and ‘Beyond Greatness Champion Maia Jackman will attend ‘The Battle of the Kaimais' football tournament at Fergusson Park between 11am-1pm.
Maia will also present the winners at Tauranga their trophy.

The Sunday event includes a series of fun FIFA Women's World Cup-themed activities for all ages
Tazuni, the official tournament mascot and a variety of food trucks will all be present at the free event, making this a great family day out for football and non-football fans alike.
The trophy tour is ‘Going Beyond' to inspire people of all ages, build excitement and support ahead of the five FIFA Women's World Cup matches taking place in Hamilton Kirikiriroa, the first of which Zambia v Japan on July 22.
The trophy's journey started in Hamilton Kiririroa and will make its way to Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupō, Cambridge and back to Hamilton Kiririroa.

9am to 1.30pm: U-14 Girls Battle of the Kaimais (16 teams entered).
10am to 11am: Junior girls activation (U-6 — U-12), free to anyone.
11am: Bay League: Otumoetai v Te Puke United.
1pm: W-League: Otumoetai v Tauranga City
