Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is reminding people travelling to Fieldays from the Eastern Bay of Plenty, to plan routes to avoid delays.

Travel from around the region was delayed today by congestion, road works, and a vehicle crash on SH5 which closed the state highway for some time.

Fieldays 2023 is taking place at Mystery Creek from Wednesday June 14 to Saturday June 17.

At State Highway 30/33 Te Ngae Junction, traffic management is in place and delays should be expected. There are also restrictions on SH30 at Rotomā due to repair works on slips.

"Consider taking State Highway 2 to the Waikato," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

While the roundabout in under construction at SH30/33 Te Ngae Junction, people travelling through the intersection should expect significant delays - up to 30 minutes at peak times and minor delays at all times.

"Plan your journey to take this into account."

During peak hours traffic control will be manual, and out of peak hours traffic lights will operate. This is aimed at reducing the delays, however traffic flows vary day to day.

"We are continually assessing flows and adjusting the traffic management to improve transition time between lights and manual control."

Regardless, delays will occur.

"The contractors are doing all that they can to accelerate the programme to complete the works sooner than planned, while maintaining safe working and driving conditions.

"Please drive with care as new road layout and traffic management arrangements will change as work progresses."
